7th International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Agricultural Engineering (EE&AE), November 12-14, 2020, Ruse, Bulgaria

Syswin Solutions’ products are based on its own research and development activities. One of its most important achievements, the deployment of the largest LoRa based Monitoring System in Romanian agriculture, was presented at the EE&AE 2020 International Conference. The title of the work that was presented in the Poster Session:

Implementing a large LoRa network for an agricultural application

Authors: Adrian Zarnescu, Razvan Ungurelu, Mihai Secere, Gaudentiu Varzaru and Bogdan Mihailescu (Center for Electronic Technology and Interconnection Techniques, Politenica University of Bucharest, UPB-CETTI)

The paper presents some aspects of a practical deployment of an Internet-of-Things network on a large agricultural area in South West of Romania. Data from sensors detecting soil and air parameters are gathered by local stations and must be available on the internet. Station monitoring involved designing a network in two-tiered star topology. Starting from an imposed number and placement of the stations the selection of the gateways between the local area network and the cloud was analysed. The poor propagation conditions resulted lead to the adoption of transmission parameters more favourable to the signal quality than to the energy efficiency, but still maintaining the energy independence of the stations.
